Patoienchem fest at Socorro: The parishioners of Socorro are hosting a grand eco-friendly ?Patoienchem fest' that will aim to revive forgotten Goan delicacies and traditional, healthy snacks. The festival this year will follow a theme to celebrate the coconut, and will also feature traditional music, dance and entertainment. The event will be held at the Socorro church grounds from 11am to 3pm on August 15, and is open to all.
Course on the Drupad tradition in Indian classical music: Rudra Veena maestro Bahauddin Dagar's week-long course on ?Discovering the Drupad tradition in Indian classical music' will be held from August 18 to 26 in Goa. Visiting Scholar under the Nana Shirgaokar Chair for Indian Classical Music, in Goa University, he will introduce the Dhrupad tradition through a unique course that includes the screening and discussion on Mani Kaul's film, ?Drupad', lectures and demonstrations on Rudraveena style and technique, characteristics of Jugalbandi, aspects of pakhwaj-veena sangat and audio visual presentations of various schools of Drupad, These sessions will be conducted at the Multipurpose Hall of Sanskrtiti Bhavan (Central Library), Patto, in Panaji, from 5pm to 7pm on all days except Sunday. Portuguese classes: Fundacao Cidade de Lisboa in collaboration with the Indo Portuguese Friendship Society, Goa will be conducting classes in Portuguese language and culture. The Course consists of three parts and the classes will be conducted by Francisco Lourenco Gonsalves from the department of Portuguese language and culture, University of Lisbon, Portugal. Sangod at Candolim: The traditional ?Sangod' which features Konkani songs and skits on a stage built on boats will be held at the lake in Camotimwaddo, Candolim, on August 15 at 3 pm. It is organized by the Santa Khuris Committee of Camotimwaddo. A number of leading artistes of the Konkani stage and local talent will be performing. Candolim has two ?Sangod' festivals, with the first held on June 19 at the Orda jetty. Both the festivals are quite similar.
Waste awareness prog: Rotary Club of Panaji, in association with Kala Kruti and CCP, will be organizing a ?Waste-wise inter colony garbage competition' to create awareness about the importance of segregation as a very important step to manage municipal solid waste. Kala Kruti is an organization led by two dynamic women Entrepreneurs Prerna Pawaskar and Laxmi Bharne whose core objective is to create social awareness on issues related to Culture and Environment. They have successfully hosted environmental film festival 2013 and this waste wise competition is a part of Environmental film festival to be organized from August 22 to 24 at Kala Academy premises. The competition is open to Housing Societies within the jurisdiction of CCP and will be open in three categories below 35 members, 35-100 members and above 100 members. The award will be in the form of a plaque and a cash prize up to 60,000. This event is aimed to promote an action oriented approach as a solution to MSW management.
