A major fire gutted an electronics shop at Ponda on Wednesday afternoon with the owner Deepak Patil claiming a loss of Rs 2.5 lakh.

PONDA: A major fire gutted an electronics shop at Ponda on Wednesday afternoon with the owner Deepak Patil claiming a loss of 2.5 lakh.
Fire official Santosh Gawas revealed that they suspect that electrical short circuit could be the cause of the blaze. Officials at the fire station said they were preparing an estimate of the loss suffered.
Patil said that he was not in the shop when the fire broke out, adding that the shop had electrical goods, including television and other gadgets, worth 7 lakh.

He also said that the fire fighters attached to Ponda central fire station succeeded in saving goods worth Rs 4.5 lakh.
Fire fighters said that they took two hours to control the blaze. Although fire fighters saved most of the electronic goods, most of the saved gadgets have been rendered useless as all have been filled with water.
