ED raids offshore casino, other entitites, in multi-state searches yielding over Rs 2.2cr
Panaji: Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday conducted searches at 15 premises in Goa, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, including casinos and other locations, and seized over Rs 2 crore in connection with the alleged use of cryptocurrency in transactions.
The directorate also stated that during the course of the search operations, cash amounting to approximately Rs 2.2 crore in Indian currency, $14,000, and other foreign currency equivalent to around Rs 8.5 lakh, were recovered and seized.
Investigations revealed that poker chips were being provided to customers in exchange for foreign currency, and winnings were disbursed in foreign currency based on customer requirements.
“It was found that multiple online casino platforms, namely, rolex777.co, iCasino247.com, play247s.com, Win Daddy, Poker Daddy, among others, were actively promoted by staff members of the casino under Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd,” said ED.
ED reported that different cryptocurrencies, including USDT of more than Rs 90 lakh, were found and frozen during the action. “It has also emerged that cryptocurrency wallets belonging to poker players were being used for carrying out financial transactions. The use of angadia services through crypto wallets to facilitate USDT transfers both to Dubai and various locations across the world was unearthed. Moreover, several mule accounts were identified as being used for the deposit and withdrawal of gambling winnings, which were subsequently transferred to different individuals abroad,” said ED.
“Incriminating documents and digital evidence have been seized, which establishes violations of FEMA provisions as well as linkages with cross-border hawala/crypto transactions,” said ED. Further investigation is in progress.
