E-buses to start services in Panaji after National Games
Panaji: The state government is planning to introduce electric buses in Panaji and surrounding areas. Minister for transport, Mauvin Godinho announced the initiative on Tuesday during the 43rd anniversary celebrations of the Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTC).
Godinho said, “We are gearing up to introduce electric buses in Panaji and the periphery areas under KTC shortly after the National Games conclude.”
The state also anticipates the addition of 50 diesel buses to its public transport fleet. These buses are equipped with state-of-the-art features, including real-time tracking, QR code payment systems, and numerous advanced facilities. This enhancement in bus services is made possible through a partnership with GoaMiles and seamless booking facilitated by a multimodal app.
Private buses will also be part of the ‘Mhaji Bus’ scheme, to expand the reach and accessibility of public transportation. New routes are also slated to be introduced to connect various regions of Goa ensuring a more comprehensive and efficient public transport network.
Godinho expressed optimism about these upcoming changes emphasising that “the transportation services will significantly improve in Goa.”
KTC chairman Ulhas Tuenkar, recognising the significance of enhanced public transportation, appealed to chief minister Pramod Sawant for an allocation of 200 buses to improve connectivity in the villages. This move aligns with the Swayampurna Goem mission, reflecting the state's commitment to a self-reliant and well-connected Goa, he said.
