Driver killed after truck runs down slope

Vasco: The driver of a container truck died after the vehicle, which was parked along the roadside at IDC, Verna, suddenly began moving, dashed against three other vehicles, veered off the road and ran down a slope on Tuesday night.

According to the Verna police, the accident was reported at around 11pm when Altaf Basheer Ahmed Pathan, a native of Maharashtra, parked his container truck along the left side of the road at IDC, Verna. The stationary vehicle suddenly began moving soon after, causing Pathan to lose control of it. It consequently dashed into an SUV and two other trucks that were parked on the other side of the road before veering off and running down a slope.

The driver sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to the South Goa District Hospital. He was, however, pronounced dead on admission. His body has been preserved at the morgue for medico-legal formalities. PSI Anand Gaonkar is investigating.
