Draft of ZP delimitation open for public till Sep 26

Panaji: The Goa State Election Commission (SEC) on Tuesday kept the draft of delimitation for zilla panchayat (ZP) constituencies open until Sep 26 to receive objections and suggestions from the public for the ZP election.

“A copy of the draft delimitation for ZP constituencies will be kept open in the office of the district collector and assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs)/ mamlatdars of respective ZP constituencies from Sep 16 to 26, for the general public to submit their suggestions, modifications, etc.,” the SEC said. This draft can be accessed during office hours.

The SEC started the process for the delimitation of ZP constituencies ahead of the ZP elections. Goa comprises 50 ZP constituencies — 25 in each district. The term of the current ZPs ends on Jan 7, 2026.

The electoral registration officers (ERO) and AERO prepared the ZP maps constituency-wise and submitted them along with the draft delimitation proposal to the commission.

Once the delimitation of wards is completed, the process of reservation of wards will take place. The ERO/AERO used the electoral roll of the Goa assembly in force as of Jan 2025 (as the qualifying date) and published on Jan 6, 2025 (basic roll of special summary revision, 2025, published on Oct 29, 2024, integrated with additions, deletions, and modifications carried out during the special summary revision, 2025) and the list of additions, deletions, and corrections during continuous updation with respect to July 1, 2025, to divide ZPs into territorial constituencies.

The commission has appointed returning officers and assistant returning officers in preparation for the upcoming zilla panchayat elections.
