Dhavalikar assures underpass near Safa Masjid junction

Ponda

: A day after villagers from Shapur and Chirputem in Bandora village threatened to disallow commissioning of the newly-constructed four-lane highway between Khandepar and Shapur KTC bus stand if an

underpass

near

Safa Masjid

is not constructed, local MLA and former public works (PWD) minister Ramkrishna ‘Sudin’

Dhavalikar

assured villagers he would get the underpass constructed.

“I will speak to chief minister Pramod Sawant and Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari about this. If the Archaeological Survey of India gives permission, we will get the underpass constructed,” he assured the locals after inspecting the area on Monday. Dhavalikar was accompanied by engineers and members of Bandora village panchayat.

On Sunday, over 200 villagers from Shapur and Chirputem demanded that a vehicular underpass be constructed near Safa

Masjid

at Shapur, on the outskirts of Ponda town. They had threatened to block the commissioning of the newly-constructed four-lane highway.
