PANAJI: IPS officer Kishan Kumar has sent a note stating that he has taken charge as director general of police (DGP) from Thursday afternoon.
However, the charge would be formally handed over to Kumar by the present DGP, Aditya Arya, on Friday.
Sources said that the government issued an order to Kumar asking him to take charge as DGP by 3pm on Thursday and submit a compliance report.
Accordingly, Kumar sent his joining report to the police headquarters and as DGP Arya was not present in the office, he would formally take charge on Friday.
Arya, who disagreed with the government on quite a few issues in the past few months, was transferred from the state. The timing of the transfer clearly indicates that the government didn't want to continue with Arya for the forthcoming assembly elections.
Immediately after the transfer order was received, the state government on December 21, asked Arya to hand over charge of the post of DGP to Kumar, who will soon be promoted as additional DGP. However, as Arya didn't hand over charge to Kumar till Thursday morning, the government asked Kumar to join and submit a compliance report.
