DGP joins night patrol, after-dark police net grows
Panaji: Goa DGP Alok Kumar on Saturday participated in police night patrolling, along with DIG Varsha Sharma, on the Panaji to Pernem stretch, including the coastal areas of Calangute and Mandrem.
Kumar said the presence of police during the night hours has been increased in Goa to enhance security and to reduce traffic violations.
“From time to time, we organise special patrolling. Today, I have also joined this nakabandi and patrolling,” Kumar said. “We have increased police presence and now have additional nakabandi points. We have drawn personnel from different wings like coastal security, tourist police, and India Reserve Battalion to supplement the force of police officers.”
He added, “Senior officers with me and the DIG are also on the ground to instil confidence.”
The DGP said the number of road accidents in Goa has been down by 88 over those recorded during the corresponding period last year. He said fatalities are also down by six.
He said that during his inspection of the patrolling he is also checking whether police personnel are wearing the body cameras provided to them, to be used while booking traffic violations.
“Traffic officials are also with us and checking for violations and booking when violations are detected,” said Kumar about the drive to curb drunk driving cases.
