‘Deserter’ police constable nabbed by cops in Colva

police station, who was declared a ‘deserter’ for not reporting to work since 2015 and against whom an offence stands registered at

Quepem

police station, was nabbed by the local intelligence bureau (LIB) staff in Colva and handed over to Quepem police.


Superintendent of police, South Goa, Arvind Gawas, said Prasad Gaonkar of Pirla, Quepem, was allegedly involved in felling a sandalwood tree in 2015 along with Damu Naik and a case under Sections 379, 447, 201 read with 34 stands filed against him at Quepem police station.

During interrogation in the case, Naik is alleged to have named Gaonkar as his accomplice. Since then, constable Goankar abstained from attending duty and also evaded the police. He was finally arrested at Colva on Wednesday and will be produced before the magistrate.
