PANAJI: The CID/Crime Branch arrested two persons and seized a tanker carrying 20,000 litres of adulterated fuel in a raid at Dabolim on Friday.
Acting on a tip off, the Crime Branch cops found the 10-wheeler vehicle parked at a spot in Dabolim and pounced on the unsuspecting duo inside the vehicle's cabin.
Police said that the tanker was filled with naphtha and arrested vehicle driver Abdul Samad and helper Sheikh Mehboob, both natives of Haveri-Karnataka, who are currently in custody.
The vehicle had a Goa registration, and police are investigating whether the adulterated fuel is being supplied to petrol pumps in the state. The cops also estimate that the adulterated fuel's worth could be between Rs 5-10 lakh.
Police say that Naphta is mixed along with other solvents and used as 'petrol' by unsuspecting consumers to the detriment of their vehicle.
The raid was conducted by PI Sunita Sawant under the supervision of SP Mangaldas Desai and DIG Ravindra Yadav.
