Court rejects bail petition of Pilerne murder accused
Panaji: The bail application of Vikas Yadav, 22, arrested for the alleged kidnapping, assault, and murder of Rehbar Khan in May this year, was rejected by a Panaji court.
Yadav, along with some other men, allegedly kidnapped Khan, wrongfully confined him, and assaulted him at different locations in Goa. They robbed his mobile phone and threw him on the road at Pilerne to destroy evidence, thereby murdering him.
Khan, who worked at a salon in Porvorim, succumbed to his injuries.
Public prosecutor Coleman Rodrigues told the court that Yadav is the mastermind behind the murder. He added that the victim was assaulted with cruelty, and Yadav had planned it.
Yadav doesn’t have criminal antecedents and is a local, which are not sufficient grounds to grant him bail in such a serious crime, the court held.
The court rejected his bail application, taking into account the nature and gravity of the charge against him.
The severity of punishment the offence attracts, there are chances of him tampering with evidence and influencing witnesses.
The court held that there are materials to support that Yadav is directly involved in the assault on the victim, which led to his death. Hence, he is not entitled to bail, although some of the other co-accused were released on bail.
