Constable loses life in accident on Atal Setu

PANAJI: A 32-year-old police constable attached to the Anjuna police station lost his life in an accident on the Atal Setu on Saturday evening.
The police said that Sandip Naik, a resident of Merces, was proceeding towards Panaji when he lost control of his four-wheeler. The impact was such that the vehicle hit the bridge’s divider, landed on the lanes leading to Porvorim, and collided with a truck.
Naik was rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim, where he was declared ‘brought dead’. The truck driver, Dhiraj Kumar, a native of Bihar, also sustained injuries and has been admitted to the GMC for treatment. A case of accident has been registered, the police said. Further investigation is in progress.
