Panaji: Opposition leader Yuri Alemao on Wednesday said that Congress will give “extra power” to women. He said that Congress recognises the role women play in society and that is why it plans to bring in the Mahalakshmi scheme, which will provide Rs 1 lakh per year to one woman from every poor family.
“This initiative not only uplifts women, but also acknowledges women’s contribution to the household and society,” said Alemao. He said that Congress advocates for 50% reservation for women in govt jobs. The salary of Asha, Anganwadi, and Mid-Day Meal workers will be doubled, the opposition leader said.
Meanwhile, Congress’ vice-president Sunil Kawathankar said that BJP is diluting labour laws only to help industrialists, from whom they get electoral bonds.
“When any law is amended it should benefit the masses, but here in the case of labour laws, Prime Minister Narendra Modi amends it to benefit industrialists,” he said.
