Kamat said that over the next week, a wave of support will rise for Congress with more people making up their mind to vote out BJP.

“Congress has given the people of Panaji a good candidate, one who understands administrative affairs and a new face for the

capital

. If one looks at the political environment, it is in favour of Congress,” Kamat said.

He added that people are fed up of BJP’s poor governance and are now looking for a stable government that will address their concerns.

“I can see the support growing for Congress. In the last 12 days, Congress, which could not be seen in Panaji, is now seen as a strong contender,” said Gomes, adding, “In the next few days you will see many people supporting Congress.”

Congress faces an uphill task in dislodging BJP’s Atanasio Monserrate. Former defence minister Manohar Parrikar’s son Utpal also offers a stiff challenge for Congress.
