Panaji: Senior Congress functionaries have asserted that the Lok Sabha ticket for the North Goa seat should only be given to a loyal worker, and not any candidate who is not from the party.

The functionaries passed a resolution to this effect at Congress’ north Goa district committee held on Monday.

At the meeting, where state party president Amit Patkar was present, a review of the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections was also taken.

“A resolution was adopted that only a loyal party member will be given the ticket. There were two names proposed,” said a party general secretary. “We do not want any outside candidate to be brought into the party and given the ticket.”

Along with Patkar, Aldona MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira and former Union law minister Ramakant Khalap were present for the meeting.
