Common factor: Pulmonary, cerebral edema tie all 3 deaths

Panaji: Although police are yet to confirm the cause of death of the three persons who attended Sunburn Klassique at Vagator, the force said that all three deaths have one thing in common —

cerebral

and

pulmonary

edema.

But what led to it, police say, will only be known with accuracy when the chemical analysis reports are received.

The postmortem of Phanideep Khota, 24, who died on Sunday night, was conducted on the same day and the cause of death has been “reserved”.

Doctors say that those who overdose on

drugs

run a higher risk of cerebral pulmonary edema, but “we have to wait till the final reports are received”.

“Mostly, persons who abuse substances or suffer a head injury on being hit by a heavy object suffer from cerebral edema,” a doctor said. He also clarified that there were “absolutely no injuries” on the bodies of the three youth.

The cause of death of the two persons from Andhra who died while standing in a queue outside the venue on Friday has also been reserved.

He said it is of paramount importance that police send viscera samples for chemical analysis to a laboratory without delay. “It has to be sent within a week of the sample taken,” a source said. “The report needs to be received within two weeks. Otherwise, the whole exercise has no meaning.”

In case of delayed examination, he said, there is a high chance the presence of narcotics in the sample will be diminished, and even if a person’s death was a result of excess consumption of drugs, the accurate cause—drug overdose—will not be revealed.
