Colva panchayat impasse to be decided on Monday

MARGAO: Director of panchayats Narayan Sawant has said that he will take a decision on Monday to resolve the ongoing impasse at the Colva panchayat.
The administration of the panchayat has come to a standstill as the administrator appointed by an order of the panchayat director has stopped functioning, with the district court staying the order till the disposal of a petition.Sawant has to decide whether the sarpanch, Snowkon Gonsalves, and deputy sarpanch Blanca Fernandes are to be reinstated. They were voted out of office in a no-confidence motion, but were to be reinstated after the additional director of panchayats suspended the no-confidence motion passed on February 4.
Sawant stated that as the district court had stayed his order appointing the administrator at Colva panchayat, he would have to take a decision on Monday by reviewing the situation. The district court, South, had stayed the appointment of the administrator on March 21 and currently the panchayat neither has an administrator nor a sapranch while the panchayat secretary visits the office only thrice a week.
