College teachers in state get training in digital education
Panaji: As the state has begun implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, in colleges in Goa, 110 teachers from 39 disciplines from higher education institutes got training in digital education this week. Faculty members from IIT Goa and NIT Goa helped in the training programme.
“Digital education and training in technology for education is very essential for our faculty to adapt and be active in using technological tools in classrooms. The implementation of NEP 2020 in classrooms is impossible without technology,” said secretary (education) Prasad Loylayekar.
The directorate of higher education (DHE) and the Goa State Higher Education Council (GSHEC), in collaboration with SWAYAM national coordinator Consortium for Educational Communication, New Delhi, organised the two-day training programme.
“The Union education ministry’ SWAYAM platform hosts Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and students across the country study these courses and the credits earned are transferred to their Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). There is a need for more good quality MOOCs in all disciplines and faculty must be trained for this purpose,” said additional director of the Consortium for Educational Communication, professor Rajnish Shrivastava.
Faculty members from 50 higher education institutes in Goa were trained on the subject of ‘Digital Education: Conceptualisation, Design, and Development of MOOCs’.
Kavita Asnani, MOOC nodal officer at DHE, said that the directorate, under its programme ‘MANDAVI’ (Mentoring and Nurturing Digital and Virtual Initiatives), had signed MoU with CEC in September 2022. “As part of this MoU, DHE handed over two full-fledged MOOCs to CEC. MOOC development process at DHE has evolved over the period of time and works towards producing creative high-quality content using multimedia based modern tools and technologies,” she said.
Director of higher eduction Bhushan Savoikar handed over SWAYAM 4-quadrant model-based MOOC course in geology to the additional director CEC for further review and hosting on the SWAYAM platform.
During the workshop, intensive hands-on sessions were conducted by resource experts from IIT, NIT and the industry for faculty members from Goa. The participants were trained in tools like VLab and generative AI during the workshop and they were motivated to develop MOOCs in their respective disciplines.
