CM: Goa hotels full, social media is misleading

Panaji: Chief minister Pramod Sawant dismissed claims about Goa’s tourism sector suffering due to a drop in footfalls. Pointing out that all the hotels are full, Sawant said that social media influencers were misguiding people with claims of Goa being empty.

“Some influencers keep saying on social media that tourists are not coming to Goa and are going to other places. They are doing the wrong thing; they are giving a wrong message about Goa to the people. I also want to tell them that they should come and see the coastal sites themselves,” said Sawant.

Sawant said that on Dec 31 every road in Goa was full of vehicles, as were the beaches. The month of Dec is a very important month for Goa as it forms the peak of the state’s tourism sector.

“As always, different festivals, from international festivals to Christmas and Dec 31 are celebrated with great fanfare. The months of Nov, Dec, and Jan in Goa are going to be filled with tourists. All the hotels here are full,” said Sawant as he welcomed people from the entire country to the coastal state. “Every beach is full, so many international tourists have come here, there is so much crowd on the road, and all the people coming are being welcomed warmly,” said Sawant.

In Nov 2024, the tourism department had filed a police complaint against a social media user who allegedly used “false data” to discredit the state’s tourism sector and severely damage Goa’s image as a safe and welcoming destination for tourists.
