Class XII exam: Inquiry into malpractice starts

Panaji: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has begun an inquiry after a student complained of malpractice during the ongoing Class XII board exams by a deputy conductor and the exam hall supervisor.

Board chairman Bhagirath Shetye said that the deputy conductor and the supervisor have been removed from their duties pending inquiry.


“During every board exam, a committee is formed to inquire into any malpractices, teachers not reporting to duty etc. We have referred the case to this committee, who will carry out an inquiry. We view such complaints seriously. We have acted swiftly to remove the two involved from exam duty pending inquiry,” said Shetye.

The incident occurred at a Mapusa school while the Class XII mathematics exam was in progress. One student complained that the deputy conductor, who happens to be a mathematics teacher, entered the examination hall and began helping students with some of the answers.

The complainant said the teacher offered help to her as well. She said she decided to complain given that integrity was compromised by the deputy conductor.

“There are instructions to put up CCTVs wherever possible during exams. The committee will look into all the proofs available before arriving at its findings. Ultimately, it is also a moral responsibility that lies with the teachers involved in the examination process to act with integrity,” Shetye said.
