Civic body seals illegal premises at Patnem

Canacona: Acting on high court directives, Canacona municipality sealed an illegal tourism establishment at Patnem, Canacona.
Taking a strong view of illegal structures that are mushrooming in the no-development zone, the high court of Bombay at Goa had directed the Canacona mamlatdar and local municipality to immediately crack down on such structures.
The court also passed an order against carrying out commercial activities in the structures.
Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) chief officer Madhu Narvekar, along with the municipal engineer and inspector, sealed the premises. CMC chairperson Ramakant Naikgaunkar said the structure had not obtained any permit or licence from the Canacona municipality.
The electricity department had also cut off the power connection to the establishment that was illegally tapped, officials said.
Assistant engineer of Canacona’s power department’s vigilance team, Govind Bhat said that power supply was tapped from a domestic connection to the property. The high court directives came following a writ petition filed by Arvind Sinai Nagarsenkar.
