Chief secretary to be apprised of Ribandar road condition today
Panaji: The North Goa collectorate inspected roads in Ribandar over Sunday and Monday, especially the stretch dug up by Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL). A detailed report is expected to be submitted to chief secretary Parimal Rai on Tuesday, North Goa collector R Menaka said.
In his complaint to the collector and the Goa State Human Rights Commission, advocate Aires Rodrigues had stated that the IPSDCL in April “recklessly dug the roads in Ribandar, endangering the lives and property of residents”.

However, a government official said the report that will be submitted to the chief secretary will state that the roads are safe enough.
“There is no doubt that some inconveniences have been caused and some phone lines and water connections were damaged,” the official said.
On Monday, Rodrigues accompanied deputy collector Suraj Gaude along all the roads in Ribandar and pointed out to him stretches that had been excavated and left unrepaired. “Water pipes and telephone cables were damaged on account of which Ribandar was without telephone service and water for almost a week,” Rodrigues claimed.
Gaude was deputed to conduct an inspection and submit a report following Rodrigues’s complaint last week. The latter had claimed that failure to repair the roads and clear debris would cause floods during the monsoon.
The collector said although digging was permitted till May 17, road restoration will be allowed till May 30.
