Vasco police named the accused persons Uma Patil, 45, and Shivam Patil, 27, both residents of Baina. They’ve been placed under arrest under Section 420 read with Section 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

Vasco PI Kapil Nayak told TOI that Uma and Shivam induced Rashmi Vinod Chopdekar to pay Rs 6 lakh, which she paid to the duo. However, they failed to provide the job or return the amount, thereby cheating the woman.

Vasco police have previously filed a chargesheet against Uma Patil in the court of the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Vasco, in connection with another cheating case, Nayak said.

This is the second case of the ‘cash-for-job’ scam reported in Vasco. Earlier, Govind Manjrekar and Suraj Naik were arrested by Vasco police in connection with a cheating case wherein the duo had taken a sum of Rs 4.3 lakh from Sakshi Sudarshan Kerkar of New Vaddem to provide a govt job as multi task staff in the education department.
