Canacona cops nab UP man with drugs worth Rs 5.7L

Canacona: Canacona police on Tuesday caught Mahammad Farman (30) of Saharanpur, UP, with narcotics worth Rs 5.7 lakh at Canacona cemetery near Chaudi bus stand, while he waited for a buyer.

Canacona police said they received information on the afternoon of Sep 23 about a person loitering at the Canacona cemetery. Accordingly, PSI Babu Desai and his team rounded up found Farman and some substance, which was later confirmed to be methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) weighing 28.9g.

The police also said that he was staying at a guest house in Colomb, Canacona.

A case has been registered under section 20(b)(ii)(B) of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985.

The accused was produced before the judicial magistrate first class (JMFC), Canacona, and has been remanded in two-day custody pending inquiry.
