Canacona cops arrest man for cash-for-job scam

Canacona:
Canacona police on Wednesday arrested Rameshwar Mandrekar, a resident of Sanquelim, for his alleged involvement in a cash-for-job scam. Police said that Mandrekar had promised the complainant a govt job in 2012 and received Rs 5 lakh as an advance payment.

While Mandrekar has been remanded in two-day police custody, the second person named in the FIR is absconding, said PI Harish Raut Dessai.

The complainant, Krishna Naik, told the police that Mandrekar and his accomplice approached him with a promise of a govt job if he could arrange a certain amount. A deal was struck that Naik would pay Rs 5 lakh as an advance payment, but even more than a year later, the duo was unable to arrange the job as promised.

In 2021, Naik filed a police complaint. However, his complaint remained unattended until recently. The case is being investigated by PSI Vishal Velip.

A few days ago, police arrested three persons—two from Poinguinim and one from Margao— suspected to be involved in a job racket.

Two police officers escort a man through a crowded street in Goa. He is being led away under arrest.
