Blocked road raises heat at Xeldem

QUEPEM: The blocking of a road by dumping stones near the Xeldem panchayat office led to some friction between panchayat members and locals at the gram sabha held on Sunday.
Alleging that the private road has been shown as an access road to a multi-storied building without their knowledge, five months back, Xeldem locals, under the St Alex Forum banner had blocked the road near the panchayat.
At the Sunday meet, the Members blamed the panchayat for not resolving the issue. One group argued that road should be cleared while the other insisted that the access belongs to them and it should be settled legally.
One group was led by Curchorem AAP leader James Fernandes while the other was led by former MLA Domnick Fernandes.
