Neighbours noticed smoke emanating from the flat in the morning and called the fire services. Nobody was injured in the incident.

The directorate of fire and emergency services received a call regarding the fire at 10.54am.

When firefighters arrived at the D S Green Housing Complex, where the fire had broken out, they found the flat locked from outside.

“We do not know how the fire started, but it completely burnt the AC unit and then spread to the kitchen. Our initial estimate is that it caused damage to the tune of Rs 3 lakh,” said an official with the Panaji fire station.

The first responders contacted the owner of the apartment, identified as Reshma Kankonkar. She opened the flat for the firefighters, who quickly doused the fire.
