‘BJP failed to promote solar power in Goa’
Panaji: Power minister Ramakrishna Sudin Dhavalikar should focus on getting power from the western grid and also work on encouraging solar power generation to meet the state’s energy needs, said Congress on Wednesday.
The party's media cell in charge Amarnath Panjikar said that if the INDIA bloc forms govt at the Centre, it will immediately initiate the process to scrap the three linear projects which include laying of power transmission lines through the forests.
Panjikar said that the power minister has exposed BJP, which deliberately did not explore the options of getting required power from the western grid up to Colvale, where infrastructure is ready to take it up to Xeldem Power Station. “Our govt will utilize this infrastructure to save the environment, forest and wildlife,” said Panjikar.
Congress said that BJP has failed to promote solar power generation in Goa. Data tabled in the Goa Legislative Assembly shows that the total solar power generated in Goa is only 46.97 mega units. It also demanded the recovery of Rs 1400 crore from power bill defaulters.
“I am surprised that power minister did not speak on the deaths of 55 govt staff, 7 citizens and 17 animals due to electrocution in last five years even after govt spent almost Rs 12,000 crore on maintenance of power transmission and distribution systems in Goa,” said Panjikar.
