BJP clean sweeps five talukas
Panaji: BJP, along with its alliance partner MGP, was able to sweep 40% of talukas in the ZP polls. Of Goa’s 12 talukas, BJP was able to sweep all ZP constituencies in five talukas.
The party also continued to dominate the hinterland talukas, which are considered to be BJP strongholds.
In North Goa, BJP won big in Bicholim and Sattari, whereas in the south, it was Sanguem, Dharbandora, and Mormugao.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant represents one of the constituencies in Bicholim taluka and that helped the party make an impresive win. Health minister Vishwajit Rane, who joined BJP in 2017, continued to win constituencies in Sattari with huge margins.
Social welfare minister Subhash Phal Dessai and state legislative assembly speaker Ganesh Gaonkar managed to help the party win all ZP seats in Dharbandora and Sanguem talukas. Former power minister Nilesh Cabral also won the seat for BJP in a hinterland taluka.
Pernem, which was once a stronghold of BJP, continues to disappoint the party. BJP, along with its alliance, won three of the four seats in Pernem. In Bardez, the saffron party won six seats, one less than that in the 2020 ZP elections.
While BJP put up a good performance in most of the talukas despite anti-incumbency, it failed to win a single seat in Salcete, a minority-dominated constituency. In Ponda, BJP, with its alliance partner MGP, lost one and won six seats.
