Bicholim police station among 5 best in India

Panaji: Bicholim police station was recognised as the fifth best police station in India for 2025 by the Union ministry of home affairs with regards to excellent performance in crime control and detection, among other parameters.

Bicholim PS, under PI Vijay Rane, SDPO Shridevi B V, and the then SP North Rahul Gupta, maintained excellent numbers in crime control and detection, police said.

“Moreover, in the past six months, the infrastructure of the PS was also upgraded with a child-friendly room, gym, quality canteen for the staff and hygienic barracks. All these criteria were considered when the survey by an independent team of the ministry of home affairs was done in Sep,” Gupta said.

“Recognition of Bicholim PS at the national level is a proud moment for us and the home department,” Goa police said.

Chief minister Pramod Sawant, who also holds the home portfolio, said that it is proud to note that Bicholim police station has been ranked among the top five police stations in the country. “Our govt stays committed to robust vigilance and citizen-focused policing,” he said.

Bicholim police beat staff are conducting frequent foot patrolling. Mobile patrolling — by motorcycles and PCR vehicles — is being conducted at odd hours in Bicholim and Sanquelim areas, including markets, bus stands, industrial areas, and other areas with high footfall, in order to make police presence felt and to instill a sense of security within the public, Gupta said.

The former SP said that officers and staff of Bicholim police station are deployed on a daily basis to maintain patrolling in the area and book cases under minor heads such as COTPA/smoking & spitting/garbage acts.

“During the current year, Bicholim PS has booked 570 cases under the COTPA head, 589 under Garbage, and 700 cases under smoking and spitting. Also, in the current year, 117 cases against persons drinking in public places have been booked and persons have been arrested,” he said.

Bicholim police station identified six history-sheeters and one bad character residing in its jurisdiction. Monthly verification of history-sheeters is being conducted by bringing every history-sheeter to the police station and updating his profile, Gupta said.

Bicholim police engaged local youths, senior citizens, and school and college-students by conducting various awareness programmes such as cybercrime awareness, road and traffic safety and discipline, and the ill effects of drug abuse in 2025.

“Arresting individuals planning cognisable offenses to stop them before they act. In the current year, 102 persons have been arrested under 170 BNS 2023,” Gupta said.
