Bainguinim waste plant issue: Now, Faldesai predicts end of Babush’s future
Panaji: A couple of days after the revenue minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate predicted the political future of Cumbharjua MLA Rajesh Faldesai over the Bainguinim plant issue that he will not see the inauguration of the waste treatment plant at Baiguinim as a legislator, the Cumbharjua MLA said on Saturday that Monserrate will not get re-elected in the next assembly election.
“I read Monserrate’s statement. The situation won’t be difficult for me but instead for him in the next election. I am 100% sure that he will not get elected,” Faldesai said.
Making it clear that the location of the project will not be changed, the Panaji MLA had said that he was not sure if Faldesai would be there as an MLA when the project was inaugurated. “He (Faldesai) will be there to lay the foundation stone (for the plant), but I am not very sure if he will be there to inaugurate it,” Monserrate had said.
“We are firm that the plant will come. He was asking me for the last two-and-a-half-years, and I was telling him that the plant will come. He was ensuring that the plant does not come. He is trying to protect his people, and I don’t want to comment on that. The plant will come up at Bainguinim,” Monserrate had said.
The waste management minister had said that he was the first MLA among 40 legislators to demand that the plant should come up in his constituency, and he even told former chief minister Manohar Parrikar, so that it takes care of the entire taluka.
Monserrate had said that before Faldesai became an MLA, many people approached the court, and the court also decided that the plant should come up at Bainguinim, and all the permissions were already completed.
“For so many years, he (Monserrate) was saying the garbage treatment plant will be brought there (Bainguinim). I had a meeting with the CM and got it scrapped. Monserrate should not keep commenting on it and hurt the sentiments of my constituents. He has an entire farm next to his house at Taleigao. He should have the plant there. Even if someone bigger than Monserrate comes and wants to set up the plant in my constituency, we will not allow it,” Faldesai had said.
