Assolda gram sabha opposes Fomento project

Margao: The special gram sabha of the Assolda panchayat held on Sunday vehemently opposed Fomento’s proposal to construct a compound wall and an “industrial site office” in the village.

Villagers said that the firm could be planning to set up a coal transportation unit.

Sarpanch Custodio Fernandes said that the firm had already obtained permission for the project from the town and country planning department. “After it applied to the panchayat for the construction licence, we scrutinised the file and found several discrepancies,” he said.

Fernandes said that the panchayat will challenge the approval granted by the TCP for the project.
