As police verify 9k people, CM says combing op to cover more
Panaji: Goa police on Sunday said that around 9,000 people have been verified in the state during the ongoing combing operation.
“North and South Goa police have started a verification drive. More people will be verified in the coming days,” chief minister Pramod Sawant said. “Police have rounded up people, and after verification, they were allowed to leave.”
North Goa police have conducted a combing operation at Kamrabhat at Miramar, Indiranagar at Chimbel, Merces, Santa Cruz, and Ekta Nagar and Khorlim at Mapusa. Other places combed included Arpora-Nagoa, Auchitwado, Colvale, Vatadev at Bicholim, Bambolim, Arambol, Salvador do Mundo, Baga, Sinquerim, and the Malpem railway station.
“Over the past 24 hours, 6,796 tenants and house help were verified. Action was taken against 34 hawkers who were found doing business illegally,” North Goa SP Akshat Kaushal said. “Fifty persons were arrested under preventive action, 198 stranger rolls were filled, and 240 suspected persons were rounded up for verification.”
Police said, “A search was conducted for any hideout of anti-social elements during the combing operation. Since Friday in North Goa, 9,891 persons have been verified, 78 persons were taken into preventive custody, and 906 persons were rounded up.”
South Goa police said that 3,078 tenants and house help have been verified and 563 people have been rounded up in the district.
Goa police launched an intensive combing operation as a preventive measure against potential threats after the Pahalgam terror attack. During the operation, which began on Friday night, police rounded up hundreds of people and made preventive arrests.
Police were deployed at bus stands and railway stations. During nakabandis at strategic points, suspicious vehicles were checked, and suspected persons were interrogated.
Goa police are verifying persons working on 826 trawlers and 1,026 canoes. Goa police will check any migrants visiting the weekly market. Such people should carry their identity cards, police said.
Govt has directed hotels to fill out the C-form of visitors on their premises.
