Panaji: A young woman lost her life in an accident at Anjuna on Monday.
The victim, T Poojitha, 25, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, was run over by a Hyderabad tourist in a four-wheeler near Starco junction, Anjuna police said.
Police said that Shivam Uplaksh from Haryana was travelling on a two-wheeler with Poojitha riding pillion. Uplaksh lost control and crashed into a compound wall, leading to both of them falling off the bike, police said.
However, a car driver Sameen Bawani from Hyderabad who was driving recklessly ran over Poojitha, police said.
“Without exercising caution, Bawani ran over the pillion rider and dragged her for a considerable distance towards Pooja Restaurant. As a result, she sustained serious injuries and later succumbed at a private hospital in Anjuna,” police inspector, Anjuna, Prashal Dessai said.
“The car driver has been arrested and charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The body of the victim has been preserved at GMC. The postmortem will be conducted upon the family’s arrival,” Dessai said.
