Another dolphin washes ashore at Agonda beach

Canacona: A three-month-old male humpback dolphin, weighing about 30kg, washed ashore at Agonda beach in Canacona on Saturday morning. Last month, another humpback dolphin, a female, washed ashore at the same beach.

On Saturday, the dolphin’s carcass was found by a lifeguard, who informed foresters.

Range forest officer of the south marine range, Rajesh Naik, said that the dolphin could have died due to blunt force trauma to the head, the neck, and the thoracic region (the area between the neck and the abdomen).

The injuries were noted in the postmortem examination conducted by Dr Manohar Shivaji Nagre, the marine veterinarian with Reefwatch Marine Conservation, Benaulim.

The carcass was buried in a remote corner of the beach by the forest department staff.
