Anjuna break-in: Four arrested for dacoity, abduction

Panaji: Goa police have arrested four persons, including the main accused Janardan Khorate, in a case filed by Anjuna house owner who alleged that 15 to 20 persons broke into her house and committed robbery.

The accused are said to have robbed a laptop, suitcases, printers, and other items, besides Rs 3 lakh in cash. Police have booked the accused for dacoity and abduction of the complainant’s maid.

Bronwynn Sinary, from St Michael Waddo, Anjuna, complained to police on Feb 10 that on Feb 8, Khorate along with 15-20 unknown accused criminally trespassed into her property.

They broke open the door of the house and committed the robbery, Sinary said. She said that prior to the crime, she had received threatening calls from the accused.

By an order dated Feb 13, the case was transferred to the crime branch at Ribandar by the deputy inspector general of police, Panaji.

“During the investigation, it was revealed that the maid of the complainant was abducted from the scene of the offence, hence Sections 309, 140, 61, and 310 of the BNS were invoked for abduction, criminal conspiracy, and robbery/dacoity,” police said. “On Feb 13, accused Rakesh Nandkishor Raha, Parshuram Shankar Gawas, and Vickey Vijay Naik were placed under arrest.”

Khorate had filed an anticipatory bail application at the additional sessions court, Mapusa, to which police strongly objected and the application was rejected.

Following this, on Feb 19, Khorate was placed under arrest. He had been absconding after the commission of the offence, police said.

“Efforts are under way to trace the absconding accused,” PI Tushar Lotliker said.
