Alert dySP helps save girl who jumped off Mandovi
Panaji: A 17-year-old girl jumped off the Mandovi bridge in an attempt to end her life after she failed to clear her HSSC supplementary examination paper. The incident took place on Tuesday morning.
DySP Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe, who was on his way to his office in Porvorim, saw the girl jumping into the river. Karpe immediately alerted the coastal police, who rescued the girl. Police said when the girl was rescued, she was conscious.
After she was rescued, the girl’s father arrived at the Panaji coastal police station, and then she was shifted to the Goa Medical College at Bambolim for treatment.
During her statement, the girl said that she failed two papers in the HSSC exam and was able to clear only one subject during the supplementary exam. Police said that as she was feeling the pressure of studies, so she tried to end her life.
Porvorim police are further investigating the case.
