Ahead of monsoon, drains and gutters cleaned in Canacona
Canacona: As part of pre-monsoon preparedness, the cleaning of drains and gutters in various wards of the Canacona Municipal Council began in the Chaudi area on Friday, council chief officer Laxmikant Desai said.
To prevent drains from clogging and avoid flooding, Desai is supervising the cleanliness drive, which commenced in Canacona’s main town of Chaudi.
Desai said the early cleaning of drains and gutters will help prevent rain water from entering roads and residential areas. He added that the ongoing drive will also include the clearing of garbage piles to prevent waste from flowing into drains.
CMC supervisor Kanay Desai told TOI that in previous years, local NGOs such as Goenkar participated in pre-monsoon cleaning drives and at times highlighted the need for the local administration to prioritise the work with a quick response.
With municipal elections expected soon, the Goa govt has appointed administrators to various municipal councils, including Canacona. However, some residents have complained that the administrator in Canacona is irregular.
