After a record 1,225 matches, Little Gaurs League comes to an end
Panaji: The fourth edition of the Little Gaurs League (LGL) saw the involvement of 1,500 youngsters, playing a record 1225 matches all through the competition which concluded on Sunday with the Super Cup.
The league, organised by the Forca Goa Foundation, expanded its reach across four zones: Sinquetim, Vasco, Monte de Guirim, and Tuem. The Super Cup featured the top two teams from each age category within each zone, bringing together 40 teams and over 350 young players. The matches were closely-fought affairs.
The U-6 final between Magic Sporting Club and Phoenix FC was a nail-biter, ending in a 4-4 draw before Magic SC won 2-1 on penalties. The U-8 and U-10 categories also saw two matches each decided by penalties, showcasing the competitive spirit of the players. In the U-12 category, a crucial quarterfinal between Ignitors and Vintage 73 was decided on penalties, with the winner securing a spot in the semis.
“The Super Cup brought together the top two teams from each category and zone across Goa in a thrilling finale that celebrated the very best of grassroots football,” the foundation said in a press release on Friday. “As Goa's biggest grassroots football tournament, the league continues to provide a vital platform for young and emerging talent to shine.”
The league, one of India's biggest grassroots football leagues, engages over 1,500 young players and promotes the development of football talent at an early age. The focus is on long-term competition to enhance game-time, decision-making, and overall football skills among players.
