‘Act against roadside fish vendors in Canacona’
Canacona: Councillors and locals have demanded action against unauthorised fish vendors operating along busy road stretches in Canacona. Many are seen along the highway at Char-rasta and Nagarcem-Chaudi among other locations.
The vendors not only obstruct traffic but also discard fish waste in the open, creating an unhygienic environment.
Traffic constable Gautam Salunke said he has brought the issue to the notice of the police and the council.
Councillor Dhiraj Naikgaunkar said such unhygienic business practices adversely affect tourism and coastal businesses. “The municipal council has constructed a vegetable market complex at Chaudi spending Rs 4.5 crore, which is lying unused. If the council authorities were strict and responsible, public money would not have gone to waste,” he said.
