Accused in 2022 Sonali Phogat matter allowed to travel abroad
Panaji: A North Goa court permitted Sukhwinder Singh, accused in the 2022 murder of Haryana BJP leader and actor Sonali Phogat, to travel abroad to celebrate his wedding anniversary.
Singh filed an application seeking to travel abroad to celebrate his wedding anniversary. Senior advocate S Dessai told the court that Singh wants to travel to Phuket and then to Dubai.
Dessai said Singh’s request could be granted considering the peculiar facts and circumstances of the case, and since the matter was at the stage of arguments before charge.
The court permitted him to leave India on Jan 30 and return on or before Feb 20. The court directed him to hand over his passport to the CBI on return and remain present before the court on all dates of hearing.
Phogat allegedly arrived in Goa on Aug 22 with her personal assistant Sudhir Sangvan and Singh, and stayed at a hotel at Vagator. At night, she, Sangvan and Singh went to Curlies at Anjuna. They allegedly took her to the shack on the pretext of partying, where they forced her to consume some obnoxious substance in drinking water.
CBI had filed a chargesheet against her personal assistant and his friend accusing them of murdering her to usurp her property. In its 1,000-page chargesheet filed before the Mapusa JMFC, it is stated that the duo allegedly forced Phogat to consume drugs (MDMA) till a few hours before her death.
