AAP, Youth Cong demand action

Margao: AAP’s Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas and Goa Pradesh Youth Congress have demanded immediate measures to address the cash-for-jobs scam. Viegas called for protecting complainants’ identities to encourage more people to come forward and expose the culprits. He also demanded that state BJP President Sadanand Tanavade explain the involvement of his party functionaries in the scam, and detail what action would be taken by BJP against them.

Meanwhile, Youth Congress president, Joel Andrade, reiterated his party’s demand for a judicial commission led by a retired high court judge to investigate the “massive” and “unprecedented” scandal. He demanded future state govt recruitments be conducted under the supervision of the high court.

Andrade claimed the arrests made so far were “just the tip of the iceberg”, suggesting the involvement of MLAs and ministers through “commission or omission”. He made references to a PWD job scam from Dec 2021, where current revenue minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate alleged jobs were being sold for Rs 25-35 lakh.

The Youth Congress leader emphasised the scam’s unprecedented scale in Goa’s history and called for immediate action, warning against politicising the issue while insisting on accountability for those responsible.
