96 people have lost their lives on Goa roads since January

PANAJI: Goa had recorded 83 fatal accidents from January 1 to April this year. In the month of May, another 13 fatal accidents occurred in the state, which also saw two pedestrians losing their lives in road mishaps.
As per the report prepared for May by the state transport department, there were 320 road accidents recorded on Goa’s roads. Of the 13 fatal accidents, five occurred in North Goa and eight in South Goa, and 14 persons lost their lives in these cases.

“Nine riders and one pillion rider lost their lives in these accidents, while two passengers and two pedestrians lost their lives in the road accidents,” reads the report.
Another sixteen accidents across the state saw those involved suffering from grievous injuries.
“Thirty-seven persons were grievously injured (North Goa – 12 and South Goa – 25), while 139 persons suffered minor injuries (North – 38, South – 101),” states the transport department report.
Goa’s transport department has issued close to 7,000 challans in the month of May.
“Eighty-six minor accidents (North Goa – 25 and South Goa – 61), non-injury accidents (North Goa – 118 and South Goa – 87). The total number of people who lost their lives in road accidents were 14 (North Goa – 5 and South Goa - 9 ),” the report states.
