91% crime cases detected at Quepem from January-March 2015

QUEPEM: The Quepem police station ranks at the top with 91% in crime detection for the period from January to March 2015.
Sources said that the Quepem police station had registered 25 cases from January to March this year and 23 cases were detected which is an all-time record.
PI Pravin Gawas told TOI that one case of attempt to murder was registered and was detected.Of four theft cases, three were detected whereas of the one cheating case, two mischief cases, three rioting cases, one kidnapping case, four cases of persons being hurt, four accident cases, the detection rate is 100 per cent. There are five IPC-related cases reported, of which four have been detected.
Sources said the Quepem police station is in urgent need of a lady PSI to tackle cases of women and child. The present strength of Quepem station is 39, of which 13 are deputed to various offices such as SDPO Quepem, control room, SP South and one personal security officer to judge Faria.
The shortage of trained personnel is another crunch faced by the police here. As per the old sanction, the station is short of two hawaldars and one police constable for a long time now. Quepem police station covers a vast area including Sulcorna, 30km from Quepem town. There are nine beats but only two motorbikes have been sanctioned by the department making timely action difficult for the staff. As per modernization, there is an acute shortage of another nine motorbikes. Two new jeeps are required to tackle day-to-day cases.
The unmaintained garden of Quepem police station holds vehicles involved in accidents which have been parked there for the last few years but under the supervision of PI Gawas the area is being cleared and a parking space is being created within.
Gawas told TOI that they have started verification of tenants and survey in all the nine beats.
