77-year-old man from Quepem arrested for rape

MARGAO: The Quepem police on Wednesday arrested 77-year-old Peopilo Salvador Moraes, a resident of Assolda, Quepem, on charges of raping a woman.
Police sources said that the incident occurred on June 23. The victim had gone to a coconut plantation at a place in Quepem when the accused accosted the woman and sexually assaulted her.
The incident was brought to the notice of the police only on Tuesday when the victim accompanied by her sister visited the Quepem police station and lodged the complaint.
Acting on the complaint, the cops swung into action and arrested Moraes. He has been remanded to five-day police custody. Quepem police are conducting a further investigations.
