PANAJI: Aiming to reach out to more people and make knowledge more accessible, the British Council is offering access to its online library.
Kajari Mitra, manager, British Library - Pune, said, "The British Council has physical libraries in nine cities for over 40 years. A number of other places including Goa have been requesting for a physical library.

To enable a wider audience to access our books, we launched an online library about a year ago."
Mitra is in Goa to encourage people to avail of the online library facility.
The online library has over 70,000 books on all major subjects including education, anthropology, religion, language and literature, medicine, business and economics, management, fine arts, law, psychology, history, technology and IT. Fiction and children's books are also available, as are small video clips and visuals.
The books are subscribed from ebrary which hosts books from over 450 publishers. The online library also contains 14,000 journals from Infotrac.
Mitra said the peer-reviewed journals should be of interest to students and people doing higher research. "You can sit at home and browse through both," Mitra stated.
The library also has more than 400 of the topmost magazines, she told TOI.
Unlike the British Council's physical libraries where preference is given to British books, the online library includes books from both the US and UK.

With millions of articles available in both PDF and HTML full text with no restrictions, researchers will be able to find accurate information quickly, make notes and print the same. The online library content is constantly refreshed as new items are added to the library. Annual membership fee to the online library is 1,100.
