PONDA: With the rise in the number of theft cases across Ponda, the town will now be fixed with 66 CCTV cameras, which will keep a vigilant eye and avert any unforeseen situations. The surveillance system would be monitored through Ponda police station as it would help the officials keep a close watch on crime and take swift action if necessary, said Radhika Nayak, chairperson Ponda municipal council (PMC).
"Ponda police had identified just four sensitive points at different places on the road from Ponda sub-district hospital (SDH) to Shantinagar, however we have sought surveillance cameras for 28 points," Nayak added.
The surveillance system will be bought with the help of member of parliament local area development (MPLAD) fund, that will include a recording unit, video display units and 66 CCTV cameras including 51 night vision fixed cameras and 15 PTZ cameras. The total expenditure on the system would be 86.25 lakh, she said.
A pan-tilt-zoom camera (PTZ camera) is a camera that is capable of remote directional and zoom control. These systems can be remotely controlled by automation systems. PTZ cameras pan, tilt, and zoom and reflects the movement options of the camera while the fixed cameras remains in one position. Surveillance cameras are connected to a DVR to control the movement and record the video.
According to a order issued by Ponda sub divisional officer (SDO) Johnson Fernandes, the Curti market junction will have total five cameras including four night vision fixed cameras and a PTZ camera while the Dada Vaidya Chowk, Ponda Budhwarpeth market junction, municipal vegetable market, Sadar junction near Hotel Menino and Yes bank junction would have four night vision cameras each.
