4 from Gujarat held as Goa cops continue IPL betting crackdown
Panaji: Continuing their action against IPL betting, Goa police arrested four individuals on Saturday for allegedly accepting bets on an IPL cricket match. The arrests were part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal betting.
SP (North Goa) Akshat Kaushal said that after registering a complaint, Panaji police conducted a search and arrested 39-year-old Manishkumar Ashokkumar Krishnani, 45-year-old Gopalbai Jamnadas Kokra, 30-year-old Sandeep Inderbai Panjwani and 36-year-old Jitendra Chandulal Karmani, all residents of Gujarat.
Kaushal said that the accused were caught red-handed while accepting bets via mobile phone/online on a cricket match played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. He said that Panaji police seized six mobile phones, one laptop and other accessories, all worth Rs 4 lakh.
TOI in its Saturday edition reported that the vibrant urban lifestyle, readily available villas on rent and convenient hideouts in this tourist-friendly state make Goa a perfect destination for cricket betting operators to conduct their illicit activities in a nation obsessed with cricket.
In 2025 so far, Goa police have registered seven FIRs for alleged cricket betting and arrested 74 individuals.
Porvorim police arrested three individuals on Friday after they were caught accepting bets on a match between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
