PANAJI: Pernem police arrested three persons from
Karnataka and Kerala after several house break-ins and thefts were reported in Pernem over the last two months.
Goods worth Rs 13 lakh have been recovered from the accused.
Multiple cases of house break-ins and thefts were reported in different areas of Ashwem, Morjim, Mandrem and Arambol, wherein unidentified people would target foreign and Indian tourists staying in Goa.
Valuable items like professional cameras, camera lenses, mobile phones, bluetooth speakers, iPods, and cash were reported stolen. During the investigation, police received information that the accused persons are operating as a gang and are presently in the Calangute coastal area.
Accordingly, different teams were formed under PI Pernem Dattaram Raut.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sherief M, 45, and Sreethu CS, 30, both from Kannur, Kerala, and Shaji P M, 42, from Kodagu, Karnataka.
During the interrogation, it was learnt that the accused used to commit thefts by breaking the locks of the main door or by entering through the windows during the night. After committing the crimes, the accused persons would flee the state to Karnataka and Kerala.
Pernem police have recovered stolen property from the accused worth Rs 13 lakh approximately. They are in police custody of Pernem police station.
They will be further interrogated to establish their links with other undetected cases registered at Pernem police station and other stations in Goa. Police will also try to determine the involvement of any other of their associates in the crimes, said the police inspector.
